Miri, the Resort City

Amid the emergence of high rise building occupied with hotel chains and shopping malls in the city, Miri appears to be calm and tender city characterized by its own charms. Geographically located in the northern of Sarawak, Miri is one of the cities in the Island of Borneo being the second largest city after Kuching – capital city of Sarawak. One of Miri famous landmarks is the Grand Old Lady, uniquely situated on top of Canada Hill overlooking Miri town. It was the place where oil was first discovered in Sarawak and with due respect, Miri is regarded as the Oil Town of Sarawak being the birth town of petroleum industry in Sarawak. Now, the Grand Old Lady has become the state monument and hosts as the Petroleum Museum. The Petroleum Museum traces back the history as well as technological development of the oil and gas industries in Malaysia. The museum opens daily and visitors needs to pay admission fees.

Seahorse at Marina Bay

Nicknamed as Resort City on its advancement to become City on 20th May 2005 officially, MIri remains peaceful, temperate and graceful especially to those aiming to have their quality and balance of life between family and work. Miri mascot is Seahorse which may due to its closeness to the sea, justifies Miri to be given the name of Resort City.

Miri has a tropical rainforest climate with two monsoon seasons:-
a) Southwest Monsoon @ Dry Season throughout April to September and,
b) Northeast Monsoon @Wet Season throughout October to March.  

In the face of concrete civilization rapidly evolve in the heart of Miri, guests will always be dazed knowing the fact that its charm, beauty and nature still preserved. Miri is an alternative tourist access to Brunei Darussalam and Kota Kinabalu both are the neighbouring country as well as State. Apart from that, Miri is also the main tourist gateway to the famous Gunung Mulu National Park, Niah National Park, Lambir National Park, Loagan Bunut National Park, Bungai Beach, Tanjung Lobang, Luak Esplanade, Miri Marina Bay and is recently known for its coral reef diving
